I am Din Bar, an artist, musician, and art teacher. I grew up in the Ben Shemen Youth Village, where my father serves as the head of cultural activity. During my fourth year at Bezalel, in Michal Helphman’s studio, I was asked to think of a space that is meaningful to me, and I immediately thought of the village’s theater storeroom—a dusty, dimly lit, messy place filled with piles of costumes, fabrics, puppets, and furniture, where I would sometimes accompany my father.
This space inspired my graduate project at Bezalel, No One Listens, No One Hears (2023)—an immersive installation that blur theater, folklore, and personal myth. through the abandoned studio, storeroom, or mental space of an imagined artist who transformed into a giant moth and then into wind. This phantom figure continues to influence my work, allowing me to play with the myth of the artist and to explore themes of inspiration, transformation, and communication with abstract inner worlds.
I am currently working on large-scale light boxes that depict scenes from this character’s imaginary world, filled with magical eggs, portals, and shimmering tricks.
In my recent works, I explore lightness and flight, both physical and emotional. This body of work combines lightweight sculptures inspired by sails with small drawings featuring imagery of flying machines, musical instruments, and fairytale-like ducks, all set within fragmented spaces that appear to be disassembling.
